Bob Hubbard—Owner
Bob Hubbard has 8 children and 7 grandchildren with his wife and co-owner of Hubbard Family Swim School, Kathy Hubbard. He grew up in New York and developed his passion for swimming while working as a beach lifeguard in the summers.
Bob received a B.S. in psychology from Xavier University. While pursuing his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati he ran Swim World, a swimming-centered retail store in Ohio.
Through the late 70’s and 80’s, Bob worked in varied positions for the American Continental Corporation, serving as President of Medema Homes in Denver, Colorado, and American Founders Life Insurance. The 90’s found Bob and Kathy Hubbard in Phoenix, running the Swim Programs and Summer Sorts Camps at Phoenix Swim Club. In 1998 Bob and Kathy founded the first Hubbard Family Swim School location in Phoenix on 32nd Street and Thunderbird and began running the first location of Hubbard Summer Sports Camps. Over the years, one camp location has grown to three, and an additional swim school was opened in Peoria in March of 2007, with plans for a third in Mesa, to open in the summer of 2008.
Bob has been involved with the United States Swim School Association (USSSA) since 1998, was vice president from 2003-2005 and president from 2005-2007. He currently serves on the Maggie’s Place Board of Directors and has served on many committees at St. Thomas the Apostle throughout the years.
Throughout his varied careers, Bob’s family has remained most important to him. Eldest son Bobby was a U of Minnesota college gymnast and currently works as a development manager for First Industrial Trust. He and his wife, Jes, are parents to Sara, Bruce and Hank. Daughter Ann Marie is married to Pat Sunderhaus, a General Manager of Hubbard Family Swim School, and works as Executive Director of Hubbard Summer Sports Camps in addition to being a mom to son Frank and another child due November 2008. She graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati and also worked as their soccer coach while pursuing her Master’s in Education. Daughter Katie lives in Cincinnati and is a graduate of Xavier University, wife to Eric Greenwell, and Mom to Katie, Allie and Maureen. Daughter Clare teaches spinning, competes in triathlons and works as a hair stylist in Cincinnati, is wife to Justin Karp and mom to Elizabeth. Daughter Maureen lives in Cincinnati, is a graduate of Xavier University, wife to Matt Young and a neonatal ICU nurse at Cinti Children’s. Son Patrick Hubbard works and speaks for “NotMyKid” and is pursuing academics at ASU. Youngest daughter Maggie is a freshman at Xavier College Prep and plays soccer for SC del Sol. Youngest son Tyler is a freshman at New Way Learning Academy and enjoys computer games.
